I mentioned in my post on Bojo Beach Resort, Accra, Ghana: Part 1, I had the pleasure of meeting “Bo”, one of the investors and owners establishing Bojo Beach. He was kind enough to give us a personal tour and answer my many questions. It was not an official interview, it was great conversation, but I have summarised his answers in this post interview style.

Me: When was Bojo Beach established?
Bo: It was all started about 5 years ago. Me and my wife, “Jo”, are well travelled and have seen what coastlines such as those in the Caribbean have to offer. We asked ourselves, “why not in Ghana?”

Me: That makes perfect sense. Ghana is just a 6 hour direct flight from London and is ripe with opportunities for tourism. I am so glad that a local has had the vision to embark on such a project, and a project well done. How did you finance this project?
Bo: Well, we have lived and worked outside of Ghana for many years and had some savings. We also have friends who have invested in this project and that has helped to get it off the ground.

Me: Was it not difficult acquiring all the land necessary for this?
Bo: Yes, it was. Land is one of the most tricky things to acquire in Ghana. But after a long period, we have been successful in acquiring land right up to the main road that takes you out to the Cape Coast Highway.
Me: What other challenges do you face?
Bo: Well, on the main land, we have the necessary plumbing and WC facilities to offer as a convenience, however we are yet to get permission to set up proper toilet facilities on the main beach. The authorities do not trust that this will be done properly and are concerned about pollution of the Densu River. It is a huge barrier to us providing the necessary facilities to offer our patrons the perfect beach experience.
Me: What are your plans for expansion?
Bo: Well, right now, we have a fully functional conference and events centre and host events such as Miss Ghana, weddings and business functions. The beach is open for the public to enjoy. We have projects in progress to build a hotel, the first building currently under construction. We want to be able to offer Bojo Beach as a romantic getaway, with the man made moat offering Venice style gondola rides in future.

Me: Has this project been done with enough respect and care to the environment?
Bo: Yes, we carried out the necessary environmental impact assessments and engaged professional qualified consultants.

Bo: No I do not mind, go ahead, however I do like to keep a low profile.

On the Accra-Cape Coast Road, turn left at the Old Police Barrier (Beach Road) towards Kokrobite travel about 3 miles, shortly before Bortianor, turn left and head to Bojo Beach.
